I basically update my factory Nav every other year with a ripped/burned DVD copy of the absurdly overpriced OEM product. just be certain you don't have any of the "avoid toll roads, ferries, etc." enabled in its settings so it doesn't send you on any unexpected, whackadoodle side missions (moreover, i'm actually glad i have the old version with the larger, 7" touchscreen.) after learning the voice command syntax, i find it pretty easy to enter a route and don't find it misdirects me any more than using the navigation on my iPhone (voice prompts thru HU via BT). I don't LOVE my 4Runner's factory Nav, but i don't LOATHE it either. Any suggestions for a nav system newbee? Note: we do not have a smart phone but we do have a Tom-Tom GPS. My question for those with more experience with this system-is it really necessary to update the system every year or what ever time interval the updates are issued? Seems you could skip a few updates and not miss much. Dynamic Navigation 14 15 is a navigation system that uses the most up-to-date maps, routes, and points of interest. We may be in the minority, but we used the nav system this past summer and liked it- didn't have (or notice) any problems. I noticed on this and other nav threads that many don't like the system. Had no idea the updates would be that expensive. I havent updated yet, but this forum suggests faster navigation. On, youll see the comments about the new 3.2 update and a link (to a dropbox account) containing the iso and log files.
